History of Custom Coach Conversion--by Allen Blackledge

I began this segment of my business career in 1972 when I bought an existing recreational vehicle dealership.  From 1972 until 1980 when I sold the business, I produced and sold about 8 commercial units including BOOKMOBILES for public libraries, PHOTO LABS for commercial photographers, and GEOLOGICAL and AIR sampling units for oil exploration companies.

These years found me working as service manager for the company I sold to as well as working at building and remodeling residential and commercial properties.  I attribute my present skills and attitudes of fair play to these years.

Beginning in 1990 I had the opportunity to work with Centec Corp., as a consultant on some structural and design problems that occurred with the mobile computer labs that were built and sold in their first year of production.  This relationship continued until the mobile computer lab interest progressed to the point that I was needed on a full time basis, and in June of 1993 I joined Centec Corp. as Vice President of the Mobile Computing Lab Division, designing and building commercial computer labs for the educational software that had been developed by Centec.

In April 1996 Centec Learning was sold to Computer Curriculum Corp. in Sunnyvale, CA and I continued to work until July 1996 to  finish the last of the mobile computer lab business.  Computer Curriculum Corp did not have an interest in the mobile lab line nor did the new owners of the shop facilities at the old Centec Building--now owned by Central Access Systems (a spinoff division of CENTEC).

Custom Coach Began

Happy to obtain the business for myself in January of 1997 I have pledged to bring together my experience learned from these large companies along with the pride and attention to detail that is possible when an organization is vital enough to demand from itself what it would expect from others.
